Today: Becoming The Person You Mean to Be

The DEI division is delighted to announce a second Community Book Read of the book “The Person You Mean to Be: How Good People Fight Bias,” by Dr. Dolly Chugh.

All participants who register by the end of December will receive an e-book which is theirs to keep. Register at this link: https://jcu.edu/form/chugh-book-read-jan2021

Dr. Chugh is an award-winning psychologist and faculty member at the Stern School of Business at New York University who studies how and why most of us, however well-intended, are still prone to racial and gender bias. The book provides a practical guide for how, as individuals, we can move past personal barriers to become active builders for the systematic work of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including racial injustice.

We are reading this book together in preparation for Dr. Chugh’s (virtual) visit to JCU on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 7:00 pm. Watch the DEI Division’s RISE Up Newsletter for more details and a registration link, coming soon! (Subscribe to the newsletter here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/ACLMaQG/RISE.)

Discussion groups for this community book read are open to all staff, full-time and part-time faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni and board members.

The book discussion group will meet virtually over Zoom on the following three dates:

Friday, January 8
Friday, January 15
Friday, January 22

All three meetings will be held from 12:00-1:00 pm. This is a “brown-bag” lunch meeting, so you are encouraged to bring a lunch to eat during our meeting.
