This is a 1-credit, asynchronous class starting April 12, on the meanings and ways in which monstrosity and monsters are represented and used in Western Civilization, from Dracula to The Chupacabras. It delves into why and how monsters inspire fear and fascination and reinforce social norms. It heavily relies upon the use of movies as settings where to identify and explain the creation and role of monsters. All movies used are PG-13, in accordance with the Motion Picture Association film rating system.
