Important Announcement: Enable 2-Step Verification on your JCU Google Account

To enhance the security of your Google account and in accordance with U.S. Department of Education and GLBA security requirements, JCU will require 2-Step Verification for all student Google accounts. Two-step Verification is currently optional on student accounts and is already in use by many of your fellow students. You can enable this on your account as soon as you like and it will be activated for everyone on March 19, 2024.

Why is Google 2-Step Verification Important?
Enabling 2-Step Verification significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your JCU Google accounts. It ensures that even if your password is compromised, an additional verification step is required for access.

2-Step Verification will be activated for everyone on March 19th, 2024. To avoid inconvenience and the risk of account lock-out, we encourage you to implement 2-Step Verification as soon as practical.

Action Required: Turn on 2-Step Verification

1. Open your Google Account (https://myaccount.google.com/).
2. In the navigation panel, select Security.
3. Under “How you sign in to Google” select 2-Step Verification
4. Click Get started.
5. Follow the on-screen steps.

Please note that Google 2 Step Verification functions similarly to Duo but is not the same. If you routinely use the same devices, you will rarely be prompted for the second step.
