Today: Exciting Transition to Zoom Phone for Enhanced Communication Flexibility

Dear Campus Colleagues,

I’m excited to share an important update on JCU’s communication infrastructure. As our current telephone system approaches the end of its life, we are transitioning to a more modern and flexible option: Zoom Phone.

What is Zoom Phone?
Zoom Phone is a cloud-based softphone platform that integrates seamlessly with our existing Zoom services. It will enable you to make and receive calls over the internet using your computer, smartphone, or a VoIP-enabled desk handset, using your existing JCU phone number. This shift not only enhances mobility and flexibility but also aligns with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

Key Benefits Include:
Unified Communications: Streamline how we connect by integrating voice calls, video calls, and messaging on a single platform. This integration enhances collaboration across campus.

Increased Mobility and Flexibility: Make and receive calls using your JCU phone number from anywhere, whether you’re at home, in the office, or on the move.

Scalability: Easily adjust telecommunication resources to meet changing needs without the physical limitations of traditional phone systems.

Integration with Tools You Use: Zoom works effortlessly with Canvas, Google, and other tools you use daily, making it a versatile choice for everyone.

Transition Plan:
Phased Migration: We will migrate to Zoom Phone in stages throughout the summer. Each department/building will receive a specific timeline and detailed instructions to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption.

Supporting Sustainability: By moving away from physical phones, we significantly reduce electronic waste and contribute to a greener campus environment. If you still require a physical handset or a headset, please complete the request form by May 18th and one will be installed over the summer.

Additional information, including training options, will be communicated as the project proceeds.

If you have any questions or concerns about this new system, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 216-397-3005 or email at servicedesk@jcu.edu.
